During the last century, the house, with the Vinhas stream joining the sea at its feet, belonged to the Dukes of Palmela. Later on, it was the residence of the writer Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho and the poet Gonçalves Crespo, becoming the cenaculum of period writers, thus adding an aura of dignity and culture to the beauty and harmony of its sober lines. It is officially acknowledged as a building of architectural and historic-cultural interest, and according to Pedro Falcão: "this beautiful house is so much a part of Cascais, it is impossible to imagine the bay without it."
